Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
What an honor for me to become your new Pastor in the year in which your faith community celebrates 90 years in service of the Gospel and the Church in the city of Detroit! As faith community, we will continue to move forward in our desire to Unleash the Gospel. That is, to allow the full power of the Risen Christ to do with us as a community and as individuals as He so desires. The victory of Jesus over sin and death has set us free to be adopted sons and daughters of our Heavenly Father. His victory has also freed us from the spirit of fear that prevents us from living completely for him and to be able to share our new freedom with others. We have decided to that there is no other way to live our life except in full commitment to the mission of the Church. This mission challenges us to make St. Scholastica a spiritual home, a house of prayer and healing but also a center for mission. The first step of this journey is for all of us to “Give God permission”, to do what Mary said to the servants at the wedding feast at Cana, “Do whatever he tells you”. (John 2:5) This will remain our motto for the coming years ahead. Let us not be daunted by this great task that we have been given but be filled with faith and hope in Jesus who “do immeasurably more than we can ask or even imagine”. (Ephesians 3:20)
